Security operatives have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja over his failure to appear for arraignment.

Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department/Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT), shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest through its spokesperson, who disclosed that Adeyemi was taken into custody by a team of FID/IRT operatives in Osun State.

Although details surrounding the operation were still sketchy at the time of filing this report, sources disclosed that the suspect would be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigations and necessary legal action.

The arrest came on the heels of a ruling by Justice Umar, who issued a bench warrant after the defendant repeatedly failed to appear before the court despite several adjournments granted in the matter.

During the court proceedings, counsel to the defendant, Genesis Francis, informed the court that he had been unable to persuade his client to attend the hearing. According to him, Adeyemi had raised concerns about his safety and had conveyed his fears in an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the intense public attention the case had attracted.

However, prosecuting counsel, Wisdom Madaki, urged the court to take decisive action, arguing that the case had suffered unnecessary delays as a result of the defendant’s persistent absence from court.

Madaki specifically prayed the court to issue a warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest pursuant to Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that the charges against Adeyemi were filed on November 27, 2025, while proceedings commenced on December 4, 2025. The judge observed that the defendant had appeared in court only once and had failed to attend all subsequent sittings without sufficient justification.

Consequently, Justice Umar ordered Adeyemi’s arrest and adjourned the matter until September 30 for further proceedings.

Adeyemi’s arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding his alleged claim to the office of Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
