Kanwan Katsina Emerges ABU Alumni BoT Chairman in Katsina

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Katsina State Branch, has appointed the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was contained in an official letter signed by the State Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango.
Other members of the newly constituted Board of Trustees are the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; a retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Hajia Binta Ayi Ibrahim; Special Adviser, Department of Local Government Inspectorate, Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana; environmental engineer and consultant, Engineer Bala Abdullahi Maimaje; and a retired Director of Security in the Katsina State Governor’s Office, Alhaji Ibrahim Daku, who will serve as Secretary to the Board.
According to the Association, the decision to appoint Alhaji Kankara as Chairman was taken by the Executive Committee and the entire membership in accordance with the provisions of the Association’s Constitution.
The leadership said the appointment reflected its confidence in Kankara’s integrity, experience, wisdom and longstanding commitment to the development of the Alumni Association, Katsina State and Nigeria.
The Association said the new BoT Chairman would be expected to provide strategic guidance, institutional memory and counsel towards promoting the growth, unity, credibility and long-term sustainability of the Katsina State Branch.
While congratulating Kankara on what it described as a well-deserved recognition, the Association expressed optimism that his leadership experience and stature would strengthen stakeholder engagement and inspire greater commitment to the ideals and values of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1981. Following his graduation, he proceeded to the then Bendel State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where he served as an Assistant Secretary at Oshimili Local Government Area, Asaba.
He subsequently joined the Nigeria Customs Service, where he served for 35 years before retiring from active service.
Since his retirement, Kankara has continued to contribute to the development of his community and the wider society, particularly through his traditional leadership role as the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
