Nutritional Society Honours Kanwan Katsina for Championing Nutrition Drive

The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has been honoured by the Nutritional Society of Nigeria (NSN), Katsina State Chapter, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to advancing nutrition programmes and promoting healthier communities across Katsina State.

The prestigious award was presented by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, during the opening ceremony of the Society’s two-day annual workshop in Katsina.

The recognition celebrates the monarch’s sustained support for nutrition initiatives in Ketare District and his broader advocacy for improved public health across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Kanwan Katsina’s Media Aide, Jamilu Hashimu Gora, the honour reflects the traditional ruler’s unwavering dedication to initiatives aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving the well-being of vulnerable populations, particularly children.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system through massive investments in the renovation and upgrading of hospitals and primary healthcare centres, recruitment of qualified medical personnel, and the provision of modern medical equipment to enhance service delivery.

The governor also announced the constitution of a committee to oversee the Nutrition Centre at Kofar Sauri, describing the move as part of the state’s intensified efforts to combat child malnutrition and improve nutritional outcomes across Katsina.

Responding to the honour, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara expressed appreciation to the Nutritional Society of Nigeria for recognising his contributions and pledged to continue supporting programmes that promote healthy living.

He also commended the Society for its dedication to improving nutritional awareness nationwide.

The Kanwan Katsina urged the Society to expand its public enlightenment campaigns by leveraging radio and television broadcasts, social media platforms, live streaming, flyers, banners and other communication channels to educate citizens on the importance of balanced diets, proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles in preventing diseases and enhancing overall healthcare outcomes.

Earlier, renowned nutrition scholar, Professor Matazu, mni, delivered a keynote presentation highlighting the critical role of nutrition in effective healthcare delivery.

The workshop attracted top government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; the Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu Funtua; the General Manager of the Hospitals Services Management Board, Dr. Nazir Kurfi; the Vice-Chairman of the Northern States Chapter of the Nutritional Society of Nigeria, alongside other health professionals, nutrition experts and key stakeholders.
