Comptroller Anani Shatters Revenue Record as Tin Can Customs Rakes in ₦135.59bn in July …Command Posts Highest Monthly Collection in Its History, Surpasses 2025 Revenue by Over ₦19.5bn

The Tin Can Island Port Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new benchmark in revenue generation, recording an unprecedented ₦135.59 billion in July 2026 under the leadership of Comptroller Joe Anani—the highest monthly revenue ever posted by the Command.
The record-breaking performance not only cements Tin Can’s status as one of Nigeria’s foremost revenue-generating ports but also underscores the remarkable transformation taking place under Anani’s administration, which has continued to redefine operational excellence, stakeholder confidence and revenue efficiency.
Official figures obtained by Frontline Reporters indicate that the Command realised ₦135,588,777,000 in July 2026, representing an impressive increase of more than ₦19.5 billion over the ₦116 billion collected during the corresponding period in 2025.
The outstanding performance reflects a combination of strategic leadership, strengthened compliance mechanisms, improved cargo processing, enhanced trade facilitation and sustained stakeholder engagement, all of which have significantly expanded the Command’s revenue base.
For industry watchers, the achievement is far more than another statistical milestone. Rather, it is compelling evidence that purposeful leadership, administrative transparency and operational discipline remain the most effective drivers of sustainable revenue growth.
Since assuming office, Comptroller Anani has steadily repositioned the Tin Can Command through a management philosophy built on professionalism, accountability and constructive engagement with stakeholders. Instead of relying solely on aggressive enforcement, he has pursued a balanced strategy that combines firm regulatory oversight with open dialogue, policy clarity and fairness.
That approach has strengthened voluntary compliance among importers, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders and shipping companies, while preserving the Nigeria Customs Service’s statutory authority to enforce compliance where necessary.
Stakeholders across the maritime industry say the predictability introduced under Anani’s leadership has created a more business-friendly operating environment. Importers now have greater confidence that properly documented cargo will receive prompt and transparent clearance, while deliberate violations continue to attract swift but proportionate sanctions.
The result has been increased confidence in the port system, faster cargo turnaround, improved trade volumes and stronger revenue inflows.
Economic analysts argue that enduring revenue growth is rarely achieved through enforcement alone. Rather, it is built on efficient systems that encourage legitimate trade, eliminate unnecessary bottlenecks and inspire confidence among investors and the trading community.
Under Anani’s watch, Tin Can Island Port has increasingly become a preferred destination for cargo owners, with efficient cargo clearance procedures helping to attract higher cargo throughput and broaden the Command’s revenue-generating capacity.
Maritime stakeholders further note that the achievements being recorded at Tin Can are consistent with the leadership style Anani demonstrated during his successful tenure as Area Controller of the Port & Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Area Command.
At PTML, he earned widespread commendation for promoting technology-driven operations, institutional discipline, stakeholder collaboration and transparent customs procedures—principles he has successfully replicated and expanded within the far larger and more complex operational environment of Tin Can Island Port.
The Command’s record-breaking July performance is therefore widely viewed as the product of deliberate institutional reforms rather than a temporary spike in collections.
The milestone also reinforces Tin Can Island Port’s strategic importance as one of Nigeria’s busiest maritime gateways and a critical contributor to national revenue generation.
It comes at a time when the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is intensifying reforms aimed at enhancing trade facilitation, promoting voluntary compliance, deploying technology-driven customs administration and maximising government revenue without compromising the ease of doing business.
With another historic revenue record now firmly established, industry observers believe the Tin Can Island Port Area Command is not only raising the bar for customs administration but also setting a new national standard for operational efficiency, stakeholder partnership and sustainable revenue mobilisation within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
