League of Maritime Editors to Hold AGM, Seminar on Port Efficiency, Cargo Distribution

The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) has concluded arrangements to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a high-level maritime seminar on August 20, 2026, in Lagos, bringing together key policymakers, regulators and industry stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The event, scheduled to take place at the BWC Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, will feature the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy as the Special Guest of Honour, while former General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Captain Iheanacho Ebubeogu, will chair the seminar.
According to a statement issued by the President of the League, Mrs. Remi Itie, this year’s seminar is themed: “Lagos/Eastern Ports: How to Reverse the Existing Imbalance in Disproportionate Cargo Vessel Calls.” The theme is expected to stimulate robust discussions on strategies for achieving balanced cargo distribution, improving port efficiency and unlocking the full economic potential of Nigeria’s eastern ports.
The seminar will feature presentations by chief executives of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy on key policy and operational issues shaping the industry. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, will deliver a paper titled “Port Modernisation: Its Impact on the Maritime Industry,” while the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, will speak on “The Essentials of Port Security and Challenges.”
Also expected to deliver papers are the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who will present “The Imperative of Paperless Documentation Under the National Single Window (NSW) Regime,” and the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah, whose presentation will focus on “The Role of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in Ensuring Cargo Distribution Across Nigeria’s Ports.”
Mrs. Itie said the seminar underscores the League’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s maritime industry through informed policy dialogue and constructive stakeholder engagement. She disclosed that a communiqué containing recommendations on strengthening the maritime sector and supporting national economic development would be presented to the appropriate government authorities at the end of the seminar, after which the League’s Annual General Meeting will be held.
