Police Invite VDM, Summon AIG Moshood Jimoh Over Allegations

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been invited to substantiate allegations he made against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh, who has also been summoned for questioning as part of an internal investigation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, has directed AIG Jimoh to appear before investigators in connection with the allegations. The statement added that VDM had earlier been invited through a letter dated July 30, 2026, requesting him to provide evidence in support of the claims he made publicly.
According to the Police, the twin actions underscore the Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability and due process, stressing that all credible allegations of misconduct are investigated irrespective of the rank of the officer involved or the status of the complainant.
The development follows recent public accusations made by VeryDarkMan concerning AIG Jimoh, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, and issues surrounding an ongoing criminal case.
The Force, however, clarified that the criminal matter referenced by the activist had already been thoroughly investigated and prosecuted based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). It noted that the case is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction and, therefore, remains sub judice.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement said.
The Police further reiterated that disciplinary proceedings within the Force are conducted strictly in line with the provisions of the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders and other established administrative procedures. It emphasized that these rules apply equally to every officer, regardless of rank or position.
While acknowledging the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freedom of expression and to demand accountability from public institutions, the Force cautioned that such rights must be exercised responsibly and should not extend to the publication of defamatory or unverified allegations.
The Police urged VDM to honour the invitation extended by the FCID and cooperate fully with investigators by presenting any evidence in support of his claims, while allowing the courts to determine the pending criminal case without undue external influence.
The Force also assured the public that any officer found culpable after a thorough investigation would face appropriate disciplinary or legal sanctions. Conversely, it warned that individuals who deliberately make false allegations aimed at damaging the reputation of officers or the institution could also face legal consequences.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice and accountability, the Police declared that no officer is above the law and that every genuine complaint would receive fair and impartial consideration in accordance with due process.
