Tinubu lauds rescue of 308 kidnap victims in Kwara, Niger

President Bola Tinubu has hailed the successful rescue of 308 kidnapped Nigerians in Kwara and Niger states, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the country’s ongoing fight against insecurity and a testament to the growing synergy among Nigeria’s security agencies.

The rescued victims comprised 163 residents abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and another 145 victims taken from different parts of Niger State. They were freed during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation at the Kainji Lake National Park forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The high-impact operation, coordinated by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), involved personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force. Security officials described the mission as the largest single-day rescue operation ever successfully executed by the joint security team.

Commending the bravery and professionalism of the operatives, President Tinubu praised the seamless collaboration among the security agencies, saying the success of the operation underscores the increasing effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations across the country.

“The successful execution of this intelligence-driven operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of Nigerians,” the President said.

The rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and comprehensive medical attention at the medical facility in Wawa Cantonment. Upon completion of medical examinations and necessary documentation, they will be handed over to the governments of Kwara and Niger states for rehabilitation, psychosocial support and reunification with their families.

While celebrating the successful rescue, President Tinubu stressed the need to sustain the momentum in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes. He directed security agencies to strengthen early warning systems, deepen community-based intelligence gathering and improve rapid response mechanisms to prevent future attacks. The President also reassured Nigerians that his administration remains fully committed to dismantling criminal networks, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
