BY FRONTLINE REPORTERS
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing the August 15 governorship election in the state to proceed without interference, describing the President as a defender of democracy.
Adeleke, who was re-elected with 511,067 votes, defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 councils.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday when he visited President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja. Adeleke arrived at about 5:20 p.m. and proceeded directly to the President’s office for a closed-door meeting.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, Adeleke said his visit was primarily to thank Tinubu for respecting the democratic process and allowing the election to run its course.

“Mr President, the father of the nation, fought for this democracy. That is why he allowed a free and fair election,” Adeleke said.
He added that Tinubu’s conduct during the election demonstrated his commitment to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
“That is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you and to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” the governor said
