CAN Urges Tinubu to Reduce Fuel, Food Prices

BY FRONTLINE REPORTERS

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to intensify efforts to bring down the prices of fuel and food, warning that the rising cost of living is placing an unbearable burden on millions of Nigerians.

The association called for urgent measures to ease economic hardship and restore the purchasing power of households struggling to meet their basic needs.

CAN said the government must prioritise policies that would translate economic reforms into tangible relief for ordinary Nigerians, particularly through reductions in the cost of petrol, food and other essential commodities.

The association stressed that while economic reforms may be necessary to reposition the country’s economy, their success should ultimately be measured by their impact on the welfare of citizens.

It therefore appealed to the Federal Government to adopt practical measures capable of reducing transportation and production costs, improving food supply and making essential commodities more affordable.

CAN also urged the government to strengthen support for vulnerable households and ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach Nigerians at the grassroots.

According to the association, persistent increases in food and energy costs have continued to erode household incomes, leaving many families with little room to cope with other essential expenses.

It called on the Tinubu administration to treat the rising cost of living as an urgent national priority, warning that prolonged economic hardship could deepen social tensions and undermine public confidence in ongoing reforms.

CAN maintained that Nigerians deserve an economy in which the gains of reform are reflected not only in official economic indicators but also in lower prices, greater purchasing power and improved living standards.

The association urged the President to listen to the concerns of citizens and take decisive steps to ease the economic pressure confronting households across the country.
