Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed fears that he may not live to contest the 2027 presidential election, alleging that he is being systematically frustrated by the current administration alongside other opposition figures.
Obi made the startling remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo and shared on X on Wednesday.
According to Frontline Reporters, Obi, while responding to a question on whether he could be prevented from contesting the 2027 election, said the issue went beyond his political ambition.
“Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you,” Obi declared.
He alleged that every aspect of his public and private engagements was being deliberately obstructed, claiming that the government had consistently made life difficult for him.
“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor, however, clarified that he was not making a direct accusation against any individual but insisted that the pattern of events surrounding him suggested a coordinated campaign of intimidation.
“It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal—it is not normal anymore. They won’t come directly and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their hand in virtually everything,” Obi stated.
He further alleged that the intimidation was not limited to him but extended to virtually all opposition politicians, claiming that even privileges ordinarily due to him were being withheld.
“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with necessary things that I should have been entitled to—not at all,” he added.
Obi also recounted what he described as a recent incident at an airport where officials allegedly immobilised his vehicle while allowing others parked in the same area to remain untouched.
“I had a case recently at the airport where people who work there came and locked my car. I told them it was my car, but the person in charge said he didn’t care. Yet, other vehicles parked there were left alone,” he claimed.
He further alleged that the political atmosphere had become so tense that some associates were now reluctant to be seen with him publicly.
According to Obi, some acquaintances avoid greeting him in public out of fear of being identified with him, while others have reportedly asked him not to attend family celebrations to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
As of the time of filing this report, Obi did not present evidence to substantiate the allegations made during the interview, while the Federal Government had not issued any official response to the claims.
