Six Burnt to Death as Gas-Laden Truck Explodes at Kogi Army Checkpoint

At least six persons were killed on Tuesday night when a gas-laden truck exploded at an Army checkpoint along the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway in Kogi State, triggering a devastating inferno that engulfed several vehicles.
The tragic incident occurred within the Chikara Division axis of the highway, prompting an emergency response from personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Motor Traffic Division, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Eyewitnesses said the truck, which was conveying gas cylinders, exploded as it approached the Army checkpoint, sending flames billowing into the air and setting nearby vehicles ablaze.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent, the driver of the gas truck and his assistant, popularly known as the motor boy, were burnt beyond recognition in the explosion.

“The fire quickly spread to three other trucks that were close to the scene, killing their drivers and motor boys. In all, six people lost their lives in the tragic incident,” the eyewitness disclosed.
The explosion caused panic among motorists and commuters along the busy highway, while emergency responders battled to contain the fire and prevent further casualties.
Authorities are yet to officially determine the cause of the explosion, as investigations into the incident are expected to commence.
