2027: FG Fires Back at Obi, Kwankwaso — Insists Tinubu, APC Will Win

The Federal Government has rejected claims by former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso that President Bola Tinubu faces defeat in the 2027 presidential election, declaring that the All Progressives Congress remains confident of retaining power.

Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, dismissed suggestions of growing opposition to the APC in the North, insisting that the ruling party would win the presidential election, the Kaduna governorship poll and other elective contests in the state.

Musa spoke on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, shortly after Obi and Kwankwaso told their supporters that they would resist any attempt to manipulate the 2027 elections. Obi warned that Nigerians would not allow their votes to be subverted at polling units, while Kwankwaso argued that the APC could still lose despite controlling more than 30 states, citing the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

Asked whether the APC could lose Kaduna State in 2027, Musa was emphatic. “APC will win in Kaduna. That I know,” he declared, adding that his prediction covered the presidential, governorship and other elections.

The minister also dismissed reports of growing anti-APC and anti-Tinubu sentiments in the North as largely a matter of perception. According to him, some individuals were exploiting public dissatisfaction and economic hardship to whip up sentiments against the ruling party.

Defending President Tinubu’s economic policies, Musa said the administration had taken painful but necessary decisions whose benefits would become increasingly evident with time. “The President has taken very painful decisions,” he said, expressing confidence that Nigerians would eventually understand and appreciate the rationale behind the reforms.

Musa ended his assessment with an unequivocal prediction: “And I can tell you, APC will win.”

Earlier, Obi and Kwankwaso had assured their supporters that they would not be intimidated or allow their votes to be subverted during the 2027 general elections. Obi warned that anyone who attempted to prevent votes from being counted would himself be “counted.”
