APM South-East Chairmen Reject Appointment of Zonal, State Coordinators for Makinde-Daura Campaign Council
– Demand dissolution of parallel structures, equitable distribution of campaign materials, and recognition of state chairmen
BY FRONTLINE REPORTERS
The South-East state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have rejected the appointment of zonal and state coordinators for the proposed Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Council, describing the arrangement as a threat to the party’s established leadership structures and internal democracy.
The chairmen, representing Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, made their position known in a communiqué issued after deliberations on the party’s leadership, the RESET NIGERIA AGENDA and the structure of the presidential campaign council. They called for the immediate dissolution of the coordinator structures, insisting that the recognised state chairmen should be empowered to manage campaign activities in their respective states.
The communiqué expressed support for the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, commending his leadership and efforts to strengthen the party. The chairmen also welcomed Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alongside their political associates and supporters, into the APM, describing their participation as an opportunity to expand the party’s national appeal.
They, however, warned that the establishment of parallel campaign structures without adequate consultation with state chairmen could create confusion, encourage unnecessary rivalry and undermine party cohesion. They urged Makinde, the party’s presidential flagbearer, and the national leadership to urgently address their concerns and ensure that the state chairmen receive the recognition and responsibilities required to mobilise members and supporters.
The chairmen also demanded that campaign vehicles, branded equipment, publicity materials and other logistical resources be made available to the respective state chairmen for effective distribution and utilisation. They argued that the chairmen possess the grassroots networks and local knowledge necessary to deploy campaign resources strategically and transparently.
While reaffirming their commitment to the APM and its RESET NIGERIA AGENDA, the South-East leaders warned that they might reconsider their continued participation in the current campaign arrangement if their grievances were not addressed satisfactorily. They stressed that their position was not intended to undermine the party but to prevent avoidable divisions and strengthen its electoral prospects.
The communiqué called on the national leadership to resolve the dispute through consultation, fairness and decisive intervention, expressing hope that the party would emerge as a united and nationally competitive political platform capable of delivering its stated agenda.
