TUC Rejects FG’s ₦70,000 Transport Allowance, Demands Immediate Salary Increase

BY FRONTLINE REPORTERS
The TUC said JOHESU suspended its industrial action in good faith after the agreement was signed, but accused the government of failing to fulfil its obligations despite the unions’ compliance with the terms of settlement.
It specifically pointed to the outstanding adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), which, according to the congress, was to be conclusively addressed without further delay.
“Seven months later, the adjustment remains unimplemented,” the union said, describing the delay as a violation of good faith that undermines confidence in collective bargaining.
The TUC called on the Federal Government to implement the agreed CONHESS adjustment immediately, honour the JOHESU agreement, publish a clear implementation timetable, make the necessary budgetary provisions and resolve all outstanding issues in consultation with the relevant unions.
It warned that health workers should not be expected to continue providing essential services while commitments made to them remained unfulfilled.
“The TUC demands tangible action, not further assurances. It will stand firmly with the affected affiliates and health workers and pursue every lawful and legitimate measure necessary to secure compliance,” the congress stated.

TUC Awaits Further Talks With FG
The congress maintained that workers were not seeking favours but demanding social and economic justice, fair compensation and protection for their livelihoods.
It pledged to continue defending workers’ rights, exposing non-compliance with agreements and pursuing legitimate measures to compel the government to meet its obligations.
The TUC therefore rejected what it described as inadequate temporary relief and demanded improved wages for all categories of workers, stronger social protection for vulnerable Nigerians, measures to reduce the cost of living and full implementation of existing agreements.
The congress added that it would await the outcome of the scheduled meeting with the Federal Government before deciding on its next line of action.
