The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has challenged civil servants, youths and journalists to embrace lifelong learning, insisting that neither age nor retirement should stand in the way of academic advancement, personal growth and the pursuit of excellence.
The monarch gave the charge while congratulating Dr. Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, a retired Director in the Katsina State Civil Service, on his successful retirement after 35 years of meritorious service and the attainment of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in English Literature from Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
Speaking as a royal father at a reception organised in Yar’adua’s honour by his Committee of Friends, Kankara described the celebrant’s academic achievement as a remarkable testament to determination, discipline and an enduring passion for knowledge.
He noted that Yar’adua’s decision to pursue and successfully obtain a doctorate after attaining the age of 60 sends a powerful message that learning has no expiration date and that retirement should never signal the end of personal development.

The Kanwan Katsina consequently urged serving and retired public servants to take advantage of available educational opportunities to broaden their intellectual horizons, strengthen their professional competence and improve their capacity to contribute meaningfully to society. He equally challenged young people to remain committed to academic excellence and cultivate the habit of continuous learning.
According to him, retirement from active public service should rather open a new chapter for intellectual exploration, mentorship, knowledge-sharing and greater contributions to community and national development.
In a special appeal, Kankara urged Al-Qalam University, Katsina, to consider engaging Dr. Yar’adua as a lecturer, stressing that his 35 years of public service experience, combined with his academic credentials and professional exposure, would be invaluable in mentoring students and enriching the institution’s academic environment.
He described Yar’adua as a selfless, dedicated and accomplished public servant whose commitment to service and determination to pursue knowledge deserved recognition and emulation.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, the Wazirin Katsina V and Wazirin Ilimin Kasar Hausa, Professor Sani Abubakar Lugga, congratulated the celebrant on his retirement and academic accomplishment.
